Here's a picture of a fluke from konga hiku, which means "half tail" in Tongan. She's a female who seems to appear every 2-3 years.
Two years ago, she had a calf with her. This year, we spotted her cavorting with three eager young males, so hopefully that means that next year we'll be seeing her with another new addition to the happy humpback family.
No one knows what happened to the right half of her fluke, but fortunately it the physical handicap doesn't seem to be affecting her too adversely.
